Many of the streets are illuminated by old-fashioned gas lamps, while ancient trees shade the majestic mansions of yesteryear.
Some of these stately homes sit on large rolling lots. Others are within wooded estates, on the brow of hills overlooking the magnificent Ohio River.
These are urban communities where professional and business people of all ages enjoy the convenience of being centrally located, only minutes from downtown. The majority of homes in these prestigious neighborhoods are elegant with an abundance of charm. However, there are areas with smaller single-family homes, apartments, condominiums and townhouses.
These areas have service to all main sections and good auto access to the heart of Cincinnati, within 15 to 20 minutes, depending on the point of departure. I-71 links the area with all interstate highways and most major thoroughfares. These areas are in the Cincinnati Public School district. Students are assigned to neighborhood schools according to their street address. The elementary neighborhood schools in this area are: Hyde Park (K-6) and Kilgour (K-6). Students attend Peoples Middle School (7-8) and Withrow High School (9-12).
Students may also apply to attend any Alternative Program (grades K-12), programs that offer a special interest area or teaching technique, which are located throughout the entire school district. The magnet program in the area is Linwood Fundamental Academy (K-6).
Enrollment in Walnut Hills High School (7-12) is available for students who qualify academically. Special programs such as vocational training or special education are available throughout the district.
Catholic elementary pupils attend Cardinal Pacelli, St. Mary's, and St. Francis DeSales. Catholic boys and girls attend Purcell Marian High School. This area boasts 3 fine private schools: Seven Hills School, Summit Country Day, and St. Ursula Villa and Academy, Xavier University, a Jesuit school, offering day and evening college courses and a graduate school, is located nearby. The three Catholic Churches are St. Mary's, Holy Angels and Christ the King. Protestant churches include 2 Presbyterian, 3 Methodist, 1 Baptist, 2 Episcopal and one Disciple of Christ. There are also periodic interdenominational services offered within the community.
Seven of Cincinnati's finest hospitals are within a ten-minute drive. Many uptown groups of doctor's offices are also within easy access. One of the most advanced medical facilities in the country for research is located within the (Cincinnati) University Hospital complex, located nearby in Avondale.
Hyde Park and Mt. Lookout Squares feature excellent specialty shops. Hyde Park Plaza Shopping Center and Rookwood Pavilion serve all convenience needs. Downtown department stores are only 10 to 15 minutes away. Kenwood Towne Centre and Kenwood Mall are approximately a 15-minute drive. All feature everything from casual family to gourmet dining.
There are picnic and play areas at Ault Park and Alms Park, two of Cincinnati's largest and most beautiful parks. The Hyde Park Country Club is private, has an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and a swimming pool. The Cincinnati Country Club, also private, has an 18-hole golf course, swimming pool and tennis courts. The Mt. Lookout Swim Club is private. Nearby Lunken Playfield (public) offers tennis, archery, golf, baseball, etc. Marinas along the nearby Ohio River provide excellent facilities for boating enthusiasts. An indoor tennis club is located next to Lunken Airport and a racquetball facility is conveniently located in nearby Fairfax. There are also a variety of athletic and recreational activities sponsored by neighborhood schools, churches and special interest groups.
